Bolitoglossa dofleini is a terrestrial species from Central America with projectile tongue similar to Bolitoglossa subpalmata. This video was recorded at 1000 frames per second, making the interval between images only 1 millisecond. Because of the rapid frame rate, you can see both the early, slow projection phase and the subsequent ballistic projection phase. Ballistic projection takes only 3 to 4 ms in this feeding. The prey is a termite.
