Feeding in Taricha torosa

Taricha torosa is a newt in the family Salamandridae that is common in California and the Pacific Northwest. Its feeding behavior is similar to the other salamanders shown here, but in Taricha the tongue is smaller and is protracted more slowly. This video sequence lasts approximately 300 milliseconds, compared to about 130 milliseconds in Ensatina.
